the broad is making space IN Richmond.
A community center where we can learn from each other, a workspace where we can get it done, and a clubhouse where we can connect IRL - a place that exists to make more space for women* in Richmond, in our community, and in our world.
The Broad is a workspace and social club for women and gender minorities in Richmond, VA. The first space of its kind in the state of Virginia, The Broad's co- working facilities during the 9-5 allow for a productive workday while curated events and programs in the evenings cater to the diverse interests of a growing community.
Located on the third floor loft of a 1920s building in the historic Arts District - the converted photography studio is 2,500 sq. ft. and features a coffee bar, Breather room, C-Suite, individual work nooks, an all-female library. A second floor expansion added 700 sq. ft. of multipurpose community space soon after opening. The Broad maintains its artistic roots as a gallery space, with three curated shows a year of all-female, all-local artists. The project was a collaboration with an all-female design team and local female makers and artists in order to create a space by and for the women of Richmond.
We're solving for a pervasive design problem - most spaces (or products or systems or you name it) are simply not designed for women. We can either use them at a disadvantage or we can build our own. We chose the latter. At The Broad, we're making space so you have space. Space to learn, grow, connect, work, and BE.
The Broad is a space for us.
